New! Futsal
Chester Futsal Sundays
It is an 8 week session starting Sunday 1/3/15 and running 7 weeks straight.
We will be off 2/21/15 (first Sunday of School vacation).
Last Week will be 2/28/15 (second Sunday of school vacation) in the MPR (84 Chester Street) at 6 pm to 7pm.
It is open to boys and girls 6th, 7th and 8th grade.

Futsal is a game played between two teams of five playerseach, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used. Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the field. The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Chester Yoga New Session

Click on the link below:

Beginning Monday, January 4, and continuing until Saturday, February 20, the following classes are offered:

Monday, 5:00-6:15 p.m.                Yoga for Physical Fitness (experienced students only*)

Monday, 6:30-7:45 p.m.                Kripalu Yoga (gentle/moderate)

Thursday, 6:30-7:45 p.m.              Kripalu Yoga (gentle/moderate)

Saturday, 8:30-9:45 a.m.              Kripalu Yoga (gentle/moderate)

“Gentle/Moderate” classes are geared for students of all levels. Guidance is provided in building postures from the ground up; vinyasa (flow) is also offered. In all classes, students use postures, breath work, and relaxation to quiet the mind, tone the body, and move the inner self towards stillness. Modifications of poses are offered to make the postures accessible to all.

“Yoga for Physical Fitness” is for experienced yoga students interested in focusing on strength and toning. Traditional yoga poses are practiced with weights, stability balls, and low-impact cardiovascular movements. Unlike many fitness classes, students will stretch deeply the same muscle groups that were tightened throughout class. *Students should bring small dumbbells (3-5 lb) to class.

This seven-week session runs from Monday, January 4, through Saturday, February 20. A total of 28 classes is offered over 7 Mondays, 7 Thursdays, and 7 Saturdays. There IS class on Martin Luther King Day (January 18).

Fees per person are: 6 classes $50; 7 classes $60; 10 classes $80; 14 classes $90; 20+ classes $105. Since registration is based on the number of classes one is interested in attending (rather than a particular day/time), classes can be attended any given day. Missed classes cannot be carried over into the next session. After filling out a waiver and contacting Instructor Rhonda Woodward, students can attend classes on a walk-in basis for $10.

DISCOUNTS: If more than one member of the same household registers for a session, a 20% discount off the combined registration payment applies! Also, many students find that participation in a yoga program is reimbursed by their health insurance companies; check out YOUR policy to see if this applies!

Feel free to direct questions to Rhonda Woodward, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher (887-8204/ Questions can also be directed to Sharon DeLuca, Director of Chester Recreation (887-5773/

Classes take place in the “pink” building to the right of the Chester Police Department on Chester Street. The Activities Room is the second room on the right.
