FUTSAL (Grades 6-8) – SUNDAYS

New Winter Futsal Session.  Sundays from 7:00 – 8:30 PM in the MPR.  Eight week session starts January 22 and ends March 26.  The registration fee is $20.00.  Coed Futsal is open to Boys and Girls in Grades 6-8.

Futsal is a game played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper.  Unlimited substitutions are permitted.  Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used.  Futsal is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football due to the surface of the field.  The surface, ball and rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique as well as ball control and passing in small spaces.

Session Days:  January 22, 29,    February 5, 12, 19,    March 12, 19, 26

Our Winter II session begins Saturday, March 11 and runs until Thursday, April 20 and includes the following classes:

Click to download Winter II Schedule

Monday, 5:00-6:15 p.m. Yoga for Physical Fitness **
Monday, 6:30-7:45 p.m. Kripalu Yoga for All levels
Thursday, 6:30-7:45 p.m. Gentle/Moderate Kripalu Yoga
Saturday, 8:30-9:45 a.m. Kripalu Yoga for All Levels

The session includes 6 Mondays, 6 Thursdays and 6 Saturdays.  If there is a snow cancellation through the season, the make-up class will take place on Saturday, April 22.

Gentle/Moderate Kripalu Yoga is for those who enjoy building postures from the ground up.  Poses will be explored with guidance and modifications. Students use postures, breath-work, and relaxation to quiet the mind, stretch and tone the body, and move the inner self towards stillness.

Kripalu Yoga for All Levels includes gentle warm-ups and leads to asana, in which students move from posture to posture in a flow-like sequence.

Yoga for Physical Fitness ** is designed for experienced yoga students. Stability balls, dumbbells and low-impact cardio exercises are used in conjunction with traditional poses to fatigue the muscles and facilitate deeper stretching and toning.

Fees per person are: 6 classes $50; 9 classes $70; 12+ classes $90. Since registration is based on the number of classes one is interested in attending (rather than a particular day/time), classes can be attended any given day. Missed classes cannot be carried over into the next session. Classes can be attended on a walk-in basis for $10.

DISCOUNTS: If more than one member of the same household registers for a session, a 20% discount off the combined registration payment applies! Also, many students find that participation in a yoga program is reimbursed by their health insurance companies; check out your policy!

Direct questions to Rhonda Woodward, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, (887-8204/ or to Corinna Reishus, Coordinator of Chester Recreation (887-5773). Sign up online at (find Recreation Commission page, then follow the Blue Sombrero link.) Classes take place in the Activities Room of the “pink” building to the right of the Chester Police Department on Chester Street.
