Chester Yoga New Session Sign Up Now!

Beginning Thursday, November 5, the following classes are offered:

Monday, 5:00-6:15 p.m.                              Yoga for Physical Fitness (experienced students)

Monday, 6:30-7:45 p.m.                              Kripalu Yoga (moderate)

  Thursday, 4:30-5:45 p.m.                           Kripalu Yoga (beginner/gentle)

  Thursday, 6:15-7:30 p.m.                           Kripalu Yoga (gentle/moderate)

  Saturday, 8:30-9:45 a.m.                            Kripalu Yoga (gentle/moderate)

“Beginner/Gentle” classes are for those individuals who are new to yoga, need guidance building postures from the ground up, or simply want to move at a slower pace. “Gentle/ Moderate” and “Moderate” classes will include vinyasa, in which students move from posture to posture in a flow-like sequence. In all classes, students use postures, breath work, and relaxation to quiet the mind, tone the body, and move the inner self towards stillness. Modifications of poses are offered to make the postures accessible to all.

“Yoga for Physical Fitness” is for experienced yoga students interested in focusing on strength and toning. Traditional yoga poses are practiced with weights, stability balls, and low impact cardiovascular movements. Unlike many fitness classes, students will stretch deeply the same muscle groups that were tightened throughout class. Students should bring small dumbbells (3-5 lb) to class.

This seven-week session runs from Thursday, November 5, through Monday, December 21. A total of 33 classes are offered over 7 Mondays, 6 Thursdays, and 7 Saturdays. In observation of Thanksgiving, there is no class on Thursday, November 26.

Fees per person are: 6 classes $54; 7 classes $60; 10 classes $75; 14-17 classes $90; 18+ classes $105. Since registration is based on the number of classes one is interested in attending (rather than a particular day/time), classes can be attended any given day. Missed classes cannot be carried over into the next session. After filling out a waiver, students can attend classes on a walk-in basis for $10.

DISCOUNTS: If more than one member of the same household registers for a session, a 20% discount off the combined registration payment applies! Also, many students find that participation in a yoga program is reimbursed by their health insurance companies; check out YOUR policy to see if this applies!

Feel free to direct questions to Rhonda Woodward, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher (887-8204/ Questions can also be directed to Sharon DeLuca, Director of Chester Recreation (887-5773/
