Emergency Management

Chester's Emergency Management Department is responsible for facilitating the planning, preparation, response to, recovery from and mitigation, of emergencies and disasters that may occur in our community. Emergencies and/or disasters include natural disasters such as hurricanes, severe winter weather, tornadoes, drought, as well as man-made disasters such as ground water contamination, nuclear power plant accidents, hazardous material spills, cyber-attacks, terrorism, or any disaster that is human-caused.

The Emergency Management Director’s role is to ensure that all Town Departments and participating partners are aware of their responsibilities and work together to provide protective actions prior to, during, and after, any type of disaster. As part of planning and preparing, the Emergency Management Department maintains and updates the Town's Emergency Operations Plan and the All Hazard Mitigation Plan.

Chester's Emergency Management activities may remain strictly a local activity. In more significant situations, the Emergency Operation Center (EOC), located at the Fire Department, can be activated and staffed to assist with planning & response coordination, communication, logistical support, and resource requests, depending on the severity of the emergency/disaster.  The EOC will coordinate directly with the NH Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and other State and Federal partners, to insure the Town of Chester is supported in the event of a disaster impacting our community and our residents.
