May 29th, 2020: Town-owned buildings will remain closed through Thursday, June 18th, 2020 at which time the Board of Selectmen will review again. Employees will continue to work remotely. We are currently working to get the Town Clerk's office open as soon as possible.
March 16th, 2020
We continue to actively monitor the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation, which is rapidly evolving. The Town is committed to the continued health and optimal safety of our residents as well as our employees, and we intend to do our part to “flatten the curve”.
In response to the ongoing pandemic, and out of an abundance of precaution, the Board of Selectmen, in association with the Emergency Management Director, have determined to take the following steps.
All Town Buildings will be closed to the Public as of Tuesday, March 17th, 2020. However, this does not mean that we will not be working. In today’s world, most of the transactions for our residents can be done online or arranged via phone or email. Resident questions can and will be answered via phone or email. We already offer the ability to conduct many resident transactions online, including vehicle registration renewals, the payment of taxes, and the issuance of some permits.
All community events (to include Recreation Department activities) which utilize Town facilities are cancelled.
Boards and Committee meetings may be cancelled on a case by case basis. These cancellations will be communicated as they occur.
Essential functions (Police, Fire, Highway, Transfer Station, Maintenance) will remain operational. Of course, our Police and Fire Departments will continue to serve the residents of our Town on a “business as usual” basis; however, we ask that you please keep all non-emergency calls to a minimum so that they may devote their time to those residents in need of emergency services. If you have non-emergency COVID-19 related questions, please call 2-1-1 (a state hotline manned 24/7 specifically for such questions).
The Town Clerk’s office will also continue to operate. Please visit their page for the most current information.
If you have questions regarding a specific Town Department, please check the Town website, which is http://www.chesternh.org, or call (603) 887-3636 directly for more information.
The Board of Selectmen and Emergency Management will reassess our current environment to determine operational needs during the week of April 3rd, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding during these unprecedented times.
Very respectfully submitted,
TOWN OF CHESTER
Philip R. Gladu
Emergency Management Director
