DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day - April 27, 2024

DEA Take Back
Drug Takeback April 2024

The DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back day is coming right up! Please bring all unused medications to the Chester Transfer Station on Dump Road on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 between 10am and 2pm.

If you have any questions, please visit the DEA website: https://takebackday.dea.gov/

Or for more info on how to get rid of medication year round, including a "flush list," go here https://www.fda.gov/drugs/disposal-unused-medicines-what-you-should-know...

The South Central NH Public Health Network (https://southcentralphn.org/) has gifted us several dozen Deterra Drug Deactivation System packets. We will bring some to Drug Take Back, but these can be picked up at the police station any time! Perhaps you have an upcoming surgery and you worry about having pain medication left over. These drug deactivation packets are quick and safe and can be disposed of in the regular trash.

What is it, exactly? We've copied a description from their website below:

"The Deterra® Drug Deactivation and Disposal System will deactivate organic medications including opioids, fentanyl, most illicit drugs and vape fluid.

However, Deterra will not adsorb biologics, such as vaccines and immunotherapeutics which are typically administered in a healthcare setting. Additionally, inorganic medications—such as antacids, lithium, and iron supplements—will not be adsorbed. Deterra will not deactivate leaf marijuana.

It is impossible to know all forms and potency of illicit drugs. Follow state and local guidelines on safe medication disposal where applicable.

If your medication has specific disposal instructions, please follow the directions as given."
