Chester Fire Department Awarded Grant

The Town is pleased to announce that the Chester Fire Department has been awarded a grant from FEMA, known as the Assistance to Firefighters Grant, in the first round of the competition.  Our Fire Department applied for this regional grant along with the Fire Departments in Auburn and Sandown.  The intent is to replace soon-to-be-outdated breathing apparatus and associated equipment in order to meet the latest standards, with the added benefit of all three Towns having identical equipment, which makes operations run more smoothly when working together.  The total amount awarded to the three Towns is over $603k, one of the largest grants in the area.  The Towns only need to pay 5% of the total, or $9,500 each.  The savings to Chester will be between $200 - $250k.

The Chester Fire Department always looks for any possible grant opportunities to assist with its operations and save the taxpayers money.  In the past two years they have received over $100k in grant money; this award brings the total received to over $300k.

Congratulations to the Chester Fire Department!
