The Chester Police Department is seeking motivated, hardworking applicants of exceptional character for the position of full-time police officer.  Our new team member must be at least 21 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license.  When joining our team, the candidate will possess excellent communication abilities, writing skills, common sense, and the desire to serve.  Lateral transfers will be considered for paid time off and compensation.  Must have ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Police Standards and Training Council for the State of NH (NHPSTC).  Preference will be afforded to those candidates already certified by NHPSTC or whose out-of-state police certification would be recognized by NHPSTC.   Applicants, depending on experience/certification, may be required to pass a written exam, physical agility test, oral board interviews, psychological testing, extensive background investigation, and medical examination.  Current base pay ranges from $57,367.00 to $75,692.00 depending upon experience/certifications.  Review of applicants will be continuous, and the process will remain open until a suitable team member is found.

A hiring/retention bonus of up to $20,000.00 will be dependent on prior training, education, experience, and certifications.

The Town of Chester is seeking a responsible, committed, self-motivated Maintenance / Groundskeeping Technician, Level II, to handle the general maintenance and repair of various Town properties under the supervision and guidance of the Maintenance Director. The ideal candidate should have experience with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, groundskeeping, and general maintenance. A desire to serve the community and a strong customer-service attitude are a must.

Summer Maintenance Help

The Town of Chester is seeking responsible, committed, self-motivated individuals to work this summer with our Maintenance, Groundskeeping, and Janitorial team.  Duties could include cleaning, painting, grounds maintenance, and/or other related duties in the upkeep of the Town’s properties as assigned by the Maintenance Director.  Must be at least 16 years of age, have reliable transportation, and be capable of lifting weights of 40 or more pounds. 

The ideal candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other Town officials, contractors, employees, and the general public.

Town of Chester - Firefighter/EMT (full-time)

The Chester Fire Department is now accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in filling an immediate opening for a full-time FF/EMT position, as well as creating a hiring list for future positions. The current schedule is 40 hours per week, consisting of five eight-hour shifts, Monday – Friday (could change based on staffing). This position is eligible for overtime based on guidelines established by the Chief. 

Salary Range: $45,697 - $60,000
Compensation commensurate on experience and current certifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet the minimum as required by the State of NH Division of Fire Standards & Training, Administrative Rule “Part 700”
  • Pro-Board Firefighter II Certification
  • Nationally Registered EMT (Preference to AEMT or Paramedic)
  • Must have passed Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) as required by the State of NH Division of Fire Standards & Training, Administrative Rule “Part 702”
  • NH CDL B with airbrake & tank endorsement or higher (or obtain CDL within 6 months of hire)
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive driving and background check
  • Flexibility to handle general administrative duties as well as Fire/EMS duties daily

Lateral transfers from New Hampshire fire departments are encouraged to apply and must be compliant with NH Part Fire 703 of the NH Fire Code. Candidates may be required to sign a Letter of Commitment guaranteeing their willingness to remain with the Chester Fire Department for a minimum of three years. All new hires are subject to a probationary period of up to one year.

Town of Chester - Transfer Station Attendant (part-time or substitutes)

JOB TITLE:  Transfer Station Attendant
DEPARTMENT:  Transfer Station
PART-TIME POSITION:  10-12 hours/week
PAY RANGE:  $13.00 to start, $16.50 after 90 days probation period and State Certification obtained

The Town of Chester, NH prides itself on its clean and efficient Transfer Station.  We are in need of enthusiastic individuals who care about the environment enough to assist in assuring that trash and recycling materials are properly handled.  Recycling is mandatory in the Town of Chester, and materials are expected to be pre-sorted and brought to our Transfer Station for correct placement into labeled areas.  The attendant must demonstrate the ability to do the following:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Follow directions given by the Transfer Station Foreman and/or Maintenance Director
  • Multi-task in a busy environment where traffic may be ongoing and people are unloading materials to bring to various locations
  • Lift up to 50 lbs., handle materials efficiently, and move quickly if needed
  • Assist residents and other Transfer Station attendants as directed
  • Must be dependable, reliable, timely, and pleasant
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • Be willing to clean and manage trash and recycling areas so that they are kept neat and tidy
  • Be willing and able to obtain Solid Waste Facility Operator Certification (at Town’s expense)
  • Learn about recycling materials and what is acceptable and not acceptable and the rules of the Chester Transfer Station.

The Transfer Station is currently open Wednesdays from 5pm to 730pm and Saturdays from 7am to 2pm.  This is a part-time position averaging between ten and twelve hours weekly.
