Hazardous Material at the Transfer Station

On Saturday, March 6th, 2021, a resident disposed of an acetylene tank in the metal pile at the Transfer Station while the attendant was elsewhere.  Once this was discovered - because it was venting vapor of some sort - the Fire Department had to respond, as it’s considered a fire and explosion hazard.

Please don’t dispose of any hazardous material at the Transfer Station – we do participate in a Household Hazardous Waste day twice a year (April and October), and for other items that do not qualify as HHW (and acetylene tanks do not qualify!) you could contact the place you bought it, such as your local welding supply shop, for advice.
