Whether you like to keep to yourself or you are practicing social distancing, participating in solitary activities doesn't have to be boring. Choose an activity you enjoy, whether it's going for a bike ride or taking photographs of nature. Once you pick an activity you like, you may realize that occasionally doing activities by yourself is enjoyable.

Physical Activities

Participating in physical activity is a good way to stay healthy. In addition to keeping your weight down, exercise reduces your risk of developing serious diseases and can increase mental health. Taking a 30-minute walk along the beach or around your neighborhood is an easy way to get your exercise for the day. If the weather is bad, do exercises in your living room. Do strength training exercises, like push-ups and lunges, or use a treadmill or elliptical machine for cardiovascular exercise.

Media-Related Activities

Media-related activities, such as watching television, surfing the Internet, listening to music and playing video games can keep you entertained for hours. Play a challenging video game you never thought you could complete or watch a television program you've never seen before. If you don't own a video game system, you can play a variety of free games online.

Creative Activities

If you are the creative type, you can participate in many artistic activities. Take your camera and photograph things you find interesting. Nature is a wonderful landscape. If you have a knack for writing, write a poem or a short story. If you enjoy cooking, look up a recipe of a dish you've always wanted to make and give it a try.

Other Activities

If you want to do something more relaxing, take a hot bath while listening to soothing music and reading a book. Unfortunately, there are those times when you are sitting around at home and you just feel bored. When watching TV or reading books does not sound appealing, there are games to play to fill the time. Whether you are home alone or someone else is with you, there is always something to do. The best cure for boredom is to get up and do something either physical or mental to relax you and take your mind off of feeling bored.

Solitary Games

About the only thing worse than being bored at home is being bored alone. Some simple games can be played such as card games like Solitaire, which can be done with a traditional deck or on the computer. You can also try to complete a challenging jigsaw puzzle. For mind-testing games try puzzles such as crosswords, word jumbles, or Sudoku. If you have a video game system at your disposal, you can also play video games such as Sims, Tetris, or one-player optional games, like MarioKart. If you don't mind surfing the Internet there are several sites to aid in getting rid of boredom. Other websites, like Hulu.com, offer anything from television episodes to entire movies for free. For a more active person, often boredom can be avoided by practicing basketball, going cycling, or putting golf balls in the backyard.

Family Games

There are more activity opportunities available to tackle boredom with the family. The easiest way to battle boredom is to break out the board games. Classics such as Monopoly, Scrabble, and Jenga can beat the boredom as well as chess and checkers. Consider having an impromptu dance party in your living room to quickly liven things up. To take the family outdoors, try crochet, badminton, volleyball, or a scavenger hunt.
