Voter Registration

There are Four Ways to Register to Vote:

Supervisors of the Checklist:  The Supervisors of the Checklist hold regular voter registration/change sessions in their office, Room #6 at Town Hall.

Town Clerk’s Office:   The Town Clerk's office can accept voter registrations up to10 days before any election. The Town Clerk's hours are:

  • Monday & Wednesday: 8:00am to 2:00pm
  • Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00am to 6:00pm
  • Friday: Closed to the public

At the Election:   Supervisors of the Checklist will have a registration table at the polling place on election day. Be aware this will take extra time. Please be aware that you may not register to vote at the polling place on the day of the School District Meeting or the Town Meeting, only at the Elections.

Mail:  If you meet the state’s voter requirements and qualifications and are unable to register in person because of physical disability, religious beliefs, military service, or temporary absence, you may register by mail. You should request an absentee voter registration affidavit and a standard voter registration form from the Town Clerk. The absentee voter registration affidavit must be witnessed and then both the affidavit and the voter registration form are to be returned to the Town Clerk.

ALL of these methods require:

  • proof of age: birth certificate, passport, driver's license, government issued ID
  • proof of citizenship: birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers,
  • proof of domicile - Driver’s license or State issued ID card, with your current address on it - or  proof of residency  by providing two (2) forms of proof through either bills, paystubs, mortgage statement, lease/rental agreement, etc. that show your name and Chester address, dated within the last 60 days.
