Voting in Chester

There Are Two Ways to Vote:

  1. In Person: Voting takes place in the Multi-Purpose Room, which is at the west end of Town Hall – 84 Chester Street – from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on Election Day.  State law requires that you show photo identification – driver’s license, passport, student ID are all acceptable.
  2. Absentee Ballot:  By New Hampshire law, only residents who will be absent from Town during the hours the polls are open on election day, and residents with illnesses or disabilities or religious reasons for being unable to travel to the polls, are eligible to vote absentee. Absentee ballots are available from the Town Clerk approximately 30 days before an election. You may request the absentee ballot application from the Town Clerk, or you may download the application.  An application for an absentee ballot may be emailed or transmitted by FAX to the Town Clerk’s office at (603) 887-4334.

Voters living outside the United States may file a UOCAVA absentee ballot application.

You are free to vote for any candidate of your choice regardless of party affiliation during any election other than primaries. If you have questions about your voting rights, you may contact the NH Secretary of State at (603) 271-3242, or the NH Attorney General at (603) 271-3658.
