March Renewal Notices & Other Good Info...

Good evening, Chester!

The March renewal notices were sent via email and mailed Friday, February 18th. To help clear up some misconceptions regarding the notices we would like to remind everyone the renewal notices are given as a courtesy to help remind folks their registration is due. They are not a requirement- some towns do not issue renewal notices and their residents must remember to do this pesky requirement on their own.

If you did not receive a renewal notice and you would like to know how much is due, you can always (at any time) visit our website at chesternh.org, click on online resources, and choose the Registration Estimates icon. Follow the prompts for the appropriate estimate you desire.

If your email address is listed in our system – most likely you will receive your renewal notice via email. This helps to cut down on postage and paper costs.  Can’t seem to find the renewal notice in your inbox? Be sure to search for the sender as enotices@eb2gov.com. Make sure to also check your junk or spam folder. If you have given us a corporate email address, you may need to add the email address as a trusted site to ensure it gets to your inbox and not lost in cyber world. Again, if you can’t find it after your search, log on to our website and get an estimate.

Now- if you’ve received your renewal notice online and you choose to come to the Town Clerk’s office to renew- please print a copy of the renewal notice from your email. If you don’t have the capability to print, bring your registrations in with you to renew. The renewal notice is not a requirement, I repeat, the renewal notice is not a requirement! If you don’t have your registrations, the state allows the use of the renewal notice for the renewal process.

Fun Fact – You can renew your vehicles registration up to 4 months early! Yes, 4 months early, and you do not need the renewal notice, just your current registration. This comes in handy when you know you will be out of state during the time of renewal or if  registering your vehicle early will help to spread out your expenses.

Fun Fact- Some people use their municipal permit fees as a tax deduction. The fees are printed on your registrations. Although the renewal notice shows your fees due, that does not show you actually paid those fees, the registration proves what you paid. The renewal notice should not be used for tax purposes. Please consult your tax professional for more information. A helpful tip- make a copy of your registration and file the copy with your tax documents. The registration is a receipt.

We hope this helps clear up some concerns regarding the renewal notices as we have received many calls and feedback recently. We realize the notices are helpful and would like to continue to provide them to the community. There are  other reminders to prompt you to renew your vehicle, such as the stickers on your windshield & license plates, for most of you that will be your birth month (another lovely reminder, Happy Birthday!)  Please remember each of us are ultimately responsible to renew our registrations when they are due whether you receive a renewal notice or not.

Thank you!
