Town Clerk’s Office News

Hello Chester! Couple of items to update you on…

  • Memorial Day is fast approaching. Please plan ahead- don’t wait until the last minute to register your vehicles, campers, trailers or boats! Don’t forget we are closed on Fridays and will be closed on Monday, May 31st for Memorial Day Observance.
  • Tax Bills are being mailed out tomorrow. They are due July 1st. This 1st issue 2021 property tax bill (or spring bill as it is often referred to as) is calculated at ½ the previous year’s tax rate. The 2021 tax rate is not set until October,  the difference is made up in the 2nd issue property tax bill that is due in December. Think of spring bill as an estimate because the new tax rate is not determined yet.
  • All dogs must be licensed by April 30th of each year. Late fees begin June 1st. To avoid additional fees and potentially a civil forfeiture, please license your dog as soon as possible. It is much cheaper to do so now than later! The dog’s rabies vaccine must be current and on file.
  • Town Clerk Hours – are different than the Town Hall hours. Same building, but different departments=different hours. If you aren’t sure of a particular department’s hours, check online and/or call the specific department for their hours and be sure someone will be available.

Appointments can be scheduled for all DMV locations and can be reserved online by visiting dmv.nh.gov. Walk-in services are available, but wait times cannot be guaranteed and priority is given to customers with appointments.
